| The Arts and Culture Legacy Fund In 2003, the Alliance for Arts and Culture established the Arts and Culture Legacy Fund, an endowment that will cover the operating costs of the 938 Howe Street Arts Information Centre starting in 2013, when the Alliance becomes responsible for the location allotted to it by the City in 1991. The Alliance has committed to raising $450,000 through its operating budget and through fundraising. To date, $55,000 has been invested in the Fund. Every dollar donated to the Arts and Culture Legacy Fund gives in two ways in perpetuity in the fund’s endowment, and as a dollar that stays in the operating budget to assist the Alliance’s advocacy work in the year of donation. The Alliance has been an active advocate in the areas of: charities, copyright, cultural tourism, education, facilities, gaming, government funding, human resources, Vancouver's Olympic bid and the 2010 Olympics, public funding, taxation, and freedom of expression. In 1986, the Vancouver arts and culture community envisioned a united voice to speak about, and for, the importance of the cultural sector. From a founding membership of thirty, the Greater Vancouver Alliance for Arts and Culture has grown to represent more than 310 performing, visual, literary and media arts organizations and individuals. The Alliance leads Greater Vancouver’s arts and culture community through advocacy and communication, working to establish strong connections both within the arts community and with allies of arts and culture. Its aim is to increase public awareness of the vital contribution the cultural sector makes to society. In 1991, the City of Vancouver recognized the important role of this unique organization and provided for its long-term existence with space at 938 Howe Street. This prime downtown storefront location affords the Alliance a corporate office vital to its work as an advocate for the arts. The facility houses the Arts Information Centre, including meeting spaces, a training room, a computer access centre, a library of material relevant to the business of the arts, and other resources. It also provides a visible presence in the downtown core for local residents and tourists to collect information on cultural events in the region. To create an endowment that will secure the long-term financial stability of the Greater Vancouver Alliance for Arts and Culture, the Lower Mainland’s voice for arts and culture. You can support the Alliance by creating a multi-year pledge, or through a one-time donation. We accept cash, cheques (payable to the Arts and Culture Legacy Fund) and Visa.
