Call for Artists Description:

Recruiting workshop and cast members for our 2017 production on Reconciliation between non-Indigenous and Indigenous people.

What does Reconciliation mean to YOU?

We want YOU to join us in developing this exciting production, šxʷʔamət (home)

No acting experience required – Just a willingness to be open about your experiences and a desire to play!

Theatre for Living is collaborating with Journeys Around the Circle Society on our next Mainstage production in 2017. šxʷʔamət (home) will explore what Reconciliation between non-indigenous and Indigenous people looks and feels like on the ground. We are recruiting indigenous AND non-Indigenous people - like yourself - to join us to create and perform this play. No acting experience is required. The only requirement is lived experiences in the struggle towards Reconciliation …all of our stories will have different perspectives.

Each workshop participant will be paid $600 for the workshop week.

Cast members will be paid $700 per week, from Jan 30 – March 11, 2017.
This is full time work, 8+ hours a day, 5 and sometimes 6 days a week.

Apply now to be a part of šxʷʔamət (home)!
Workshop dates: Jan 30th – Feb 4th, 2017 (Renegade Studios: 3030 E Broadway)
Rehearsals: Feb 7th – 26th, 2017
Play: 11 performances, March 3 – 11th, 2017 (with a preview on March 2nd) at the Firehall Arts Centre.

How to Apply:

To apply, email David Ng (, Theatre for Living’s Outreach Coordinator your application, contact information, and answers to the two questions below:

1) We want real diversity in the room, so tell us who you are, and anything else you want us to know about you!

2) What is your journey and story towards Reconciliation? What needs to be changed for us to have true reconciliation between Indigenous and non-indigenous people?

There is no right or wrong answer to these questions – we are looking for your own personal lived experiences to enrich the play making process…don’t worry, we aren’t putting your real stories on stage, the play that will be made will be a fiction, and whatever you send us is confidential.

Deadline for applications: October 21, 2016.
