The Arts Summit brings together artists, cultural workers, elected officials and government cultural bureaucrats to discuss issues of current interest to our sector.
Over the years Summit participants have heard speakers such as Richard Evans, Diane Ragsdale, and Arlene Goldbard, and have taken part in discussions about advocacy, social-profit governance, cultural place-making, arts funding, and other topics.
The goal each year has been to bring together a diverse group of artists, organizations, presenters, facility managers, students, businesses and government representatives and create opportunities for dialogue, networking and professional development.
ARTS SUMMIT 2013-2014'S UNIQUE FOCUS
By 2013 the Alliance had identified a province-wide desire across cultural disciplines and sectors for a conversation, followed by action, about the need for a comprehensive and sustainable cultural policy framework for the province of British Columbia. At Arts Summit 2013 we began that conversation.
Since then, committee and roundtable discussions have continued and a progress report was presented at Arts Summit 2014. Further feedback gathered that year has helped us to launch a province-wide engagement process, BC Creative Convergence, with the goal of developing such a framework. Results of these roundtables and community consultations will inform the development of a discussion paper, to be presented at Arts Summit 2015.
