British Columbia's participation in the fifth annual Culture Days will kick off with a free public celebration on Thursday, September 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Centre Stage at Surrey City Hall.
With Bard on the Beach’s Christopher Gaze as master of ceremonies, the day’s events will include a poetry reading by 2014 Culture Days Ambassador Rawle Iam James, and entertainment by Spirit of the West’s John Mann and country singer Lisa Brokop.
There will also be performances by the Surrey City Orchestra Brass Ensemble, and the hip hop dance troupe Praise TEAM. Library storytellers will spin tales inside Surrey Art Gallery's giant inflatable salmon by artist Evelyn Roth, and the Heritage Re-enactors will bring history to life.
Sal Ferreras, academic vice-president at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and Arts Umbrella president and CEO Lucille Pacey will be the guest speakers.
