The Mayor’s Arts Awards recognize established and emerging artists in a wide array of disciplines that make up our creative sector – from literary and culinary arts to visual and performing arts, as well as five unique awards for contributions to the City of Vancouver.
Each arts category honouree is asked to select an Emerging Artist in their discipline who represents the promise of the next generation.
Artist Honourees, Emerging Artists, and Lifetime Achievement recipients receive a cash award. Special non-cash awards are made for contributions through Volunteerism, Philanthropy, Business Support, and the Arts Board Member of the Year.
The Mayor's Arts Awards juries are convened by the Alliance for Arts and Culture. Honourees in the arts categories are chosen each year by a jury of peers for having made a significant contribution to their respective disciplines and for showing leadership and support for Vancouver’s cultural community over the course of their careers. Honourees for Business Support, Philanthropy, and Volunteerism are chosen by juries consisting of business and cultural community members active in those fields.
The Arts Board Member of the Year Award is an initiative of the Society to Bridge Arts and Community. The Society's board of directors establishes juries who select this category's honouree, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award honouree.
The selection in each award category is made from nominations by individual jurors and solicited from the community at large.
The recipients of the 2014 Mayor's Arts Awards will be announced prior to the Awards Ceremony.
