Do you know a YoungStarter? This free arts mentorship program invites young people to take the lead in arts based community projects. This year, young people between the ages of 13-18 who are currently in or have been in the foster care system are invited to participate in the YoungStarters program. The program application deadline is July 10, 2015.
YoungStarters will build valuable skills through the guidance of mentors, gain relevant experiences through collaborative workshops, and establish a network of peers and members of the art community, while also introducing new narratives into the fold. Working on projects from ideation to planning to execution through an arts based approach while utilizing different mediums, the aim is to experience the creative process as each project evolves. This is also an opportunity for our community to gain clearer perspectives of the reality of the foster care system.
The program is offered through a partnership between ArtStarts in Schools, Vancouver Foundation, and PLEA Community Services.
If you know a teen who would be interested in this free arts program, please direct them to artstarts.com/youngstarters to learn more and apply. The deadline to apply is July 10, 2015.
