The British Columbia Honours and Awards Secretariat is currently accepting nominations for the Order of British Columbia.
Established in 1989, the Order of BC recognizes those people who have served with the greatest distinction and excelled in any field of endeavour that benefits the people of BC or elsewhere. It represents the highest form of recognition the province can extend to its citizens.
Successful nominees will be presented with the Order by the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and Chancellor of the Order of British Columbia, at an official ceremony at Government House in Victoria.
The Order of BC is open to any resident of BC or former long-term resident, who has demonstrated outstanding achievement, excellence or distinction in any field of endeavour benefiting the people of the Province or elsewhere. Fields include community leadership, business, labour, industry, volunteer service, professions and other occupations, research, culture, arts, sports and others. Federal, provincial and municipal elected representatives are not eligible for appointment to the Order while they remain in office. A person may not be appointed to the Order posthumously unless the Advisory Council recommends the appointment to the Lieutenant Governor in Council before the person’s death.
Nomination forms are available on the Order of British Columbia website at orderofbc.gov.bc.ca. All entries should reach the Honours and Awards Secretariat office in Victoria on Friday, March 7, 2014.
