Choreographer Wen Wei Wang Among Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Award Winners

Chinese-Canadian choreographer Wen Wei Wang, artistic director of Vancouver dance company Wen Wei Dance, has been voted one of 2013's Top 25 Canadian Immigrants via an annual people’s choice award sponsored by RBC Royal Bank and Canadian Immigrant magazine. The award recognizes the significant contributions of Canadians born outside this country who now call it home.

Wang was born and raised in China and trained and danced professionally with the Langzhou Song and Dance Company. He came to Canada in 1991 and joined the Judith Marcuse Dance Company, after which he danced with Ballet BC. Since 2003 he has served as artistic director of Wen Wei Dance, a Vancouver-based company whose works reflect a multiplicity of dance and social experiences.

Wang was one of 75 finalists, shortlisted from more than 600 nominations. Fellow winners of the 2013 award include notable figures in business, healthcare, social activism and academia. Past winners include Adrienne Clarkson, Deepa Mehta, Donovan Bailey, Ian Hanomansing and Bing Thom.

The award ceremony and celebration took place on June 26, 2013 in Vancouver.
