Deadline Extended: Call for Proposals - Symposium on Embodied Artful Practices

The Canadian Society for Dance Studies/la société canadienne d’études en danse, a group of artists and scholars researching and practicing in the field of dance, including in interdisciplinary contexts, such as dance theatre, dance and cultural studies, and dance education, has issued a call for papers for the 2014 Symposium on Embodied Artful Practices.

 The biennial Symposium on Embodied Artful Practices takes place July 2 – 4, 2014, at SFU Woodward's Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, Vancouver, B.C., and leads into the Dancing on the Edge Festival (July 3-12). 

This symposium will be comprised of a rich array of scholars/practitioners/artists contributing in the form of workshops, presentations, dialogue forums, roundtables, films, performances and curated panels. 

The symposium will bring together an interdisciplinary group of moving thinkers on the intertwined topics of embodiment and artful practice. Among the topics presenters/performers might consider are issues that arise at the intersection of artful embodied practices such as place, gender, community, belonging, ethnography.

Call for Participation 

Proposals are invited for various forms of presentation, including keynotes, workshops, performances, roundtables, films, and exhibitions.

  • Workshops will run either 60 or 90 minutes in a studio space
  • Studio and theatre spaces is be available for performances
  • Roundtables will run concurrently throughout the three days
  • Theatre space is available for film screenings
  • Exhibitions in the form of digital photographs will be curated and projected.
