UBC Museum of Anthropology Receives National Landmark Status

 The University of British Columbia’s iconic Museum of Anthropology, designed by the renowned late architect Arthur Erickson, has received one of Canada’s most prestigious architectural awards.

The museum is one of four buildings to receive the 2011 Prix du XXe Siècle Award for enduring excellence in Canadian architecture from Architecture Canada | RAIC, the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. Robson Square, whose occupants include UBC, is also one of the honoured buildings.

Vancouver 125 Grant Program Info Sessions

The City of Vancouver’s 125th anniversary will be marked on April 6, 2011.

The City of Vancouver, the cultural community and the wider general public all have a common interest in celebrating this anniversary, as we have done for the City’s past major anniversaries such as its Golden and Diamond Jubilees in 1936 and 1946; its Centennial in 1986 at Expo 86 and its 115th birthday with the Portrait V2K Millennium Project.

Vancouver Arts Summit: Thursday afternoon

Unfortunately, I was so busy helping get things set up and running smoothly yesterday that there was no time to report on the afternoon of the Summit. I was helping out at the Facilities session moderated by the tireless Jacquie Gijssen from the City of Vancouver's Cultural Services department. There was an excellent sneak peak into the Woodward's project, including a lowdown on W2. There were also a few updates and discussion about the Coal Harbour Performing Arts Complex and the York Theatre on Commercial Drive.

Gord MacDougall, Board Chair of Vancouver Foundation, announced today (July 24) the appointment of Kevin McCort as President and Chief Executive Officer of Vancouver Foundation. McCort replaces the foundation's retiring President Fay Wightman, and will formally assume the role of CEO in mid-September.
