The North Vancouver Community Arts Council is currently accepting submissions for our 2011/2012 exhibition schedule at CityScape Community Art Space.
CityScape Community Art Space is a project of the North Vancouver Community Arts Council whose mission it is to celebrate and promote art and artists through quality experiences in a unique and inviting gallery space and to create an inclusive environment, which enriches and encourages interaction in the community.
We accept proposals from all members of the community. To encourage and celebrate emerging and established artists CityScape maintains an inclusive environment therefore always exhibits group shows with 3 or more artists. Artists are welcome to submit individually or as part of a group. Should an individual themed proposal be accepted, the North Vancouver Community Arts Council (NVCAC) will group him/her with additional artists through an open call or invite to other artists that fit in with their accepted themed proposal. Non-artists are also invited to submit ideas and concepts for exhibitions they would like to see in the gallery. CityScape is a unique and dynamic space, so we encourage diverse and creative themed proposals.

Submission Guidelines
Mission Statement: To celebrate and promote art and artists through quality experiences in a unique and inviting gallery space, to create an inclusive environment which enriches and encourages interaction in the community.
CityScape Community Art Space is a municipally owned cultural facility that is programmed and managed by the North Vancouver Community Arts Council, a non-profit charitable organization whose mandate is: “Committed to building stronger communities by providing intriguing art programming and education.”
To encourage and celebrate emerging and established artists CityScape maintains an inclusive environment; therefore, we exhibit only group based shows with a minimum of 3 artists. Proposals are accepted from groups with a minimum of 3 artists or from individual artists with the understanding that the show will be grouped through an open call or by invitation under the accepted theme. Non-artists are also invited to submit ideas and concepts for exhibitions that may be of interest to the community. You do not have to be a North Vancovuer Resident.
The NVCAC will determine the number of pieces each artist exhibits depending on the exhibition and the number of artists. CityScape is a unique and dynamic space, and encourages diverse and creative themed proposals.
Exhibition Proposals must include the following items:
1. Groups or individual artists must submit a maximum one-page proposal describing the themed exhibition.
1. Include the names, email and address contact information of the participating artists
2. Description of works, and how they work together
3. Name, address, and phone number of the contact person
2. The proposal must also include ideas for artist’s participation in an interactive community component;
E.g. Artist talks, interactive workshops, or any other interactive and creative suggestion.Proposals involving a workshop component should include a budget outlining costs.
3. Curriculum Vitae(s) and Biography of participating artist(s)
4. 8 - 12 JPEG or PDF images on disk, or printed photographs (no larger than 8.5” x 11”) of artworks by each artist.
(All images must be clearly marked with artist’s name, title, and size). Please indicate whether or not the works will be part of the proposed exhibition. NVCAC reserves the right to reject any work that is not truthfully represented.
5. List of artworks must include:
1. Thumbnail images of artwork
2. Artist’s name
3. Title
4. Medium
5. Dimensions
6. Hanging method (e.g. frame)
7. Type and color of frame
8. Year produced
9. Price and/or value of artwork
Please note that artists receive 70% commission on artwork sales and the NVCAC receives 30% administrative fee on artwork sold during the exhibition.

Photocopies or submissions by email or fax will not be accepted.
7. Proposal returns: Include self-addressed stamped envelope or indicate that you will pick up proposal or that you do not need your proposal returned.
Please note that NVCAC views the proposal as a guide that may be subject to change upon recommendation of the jury. The artists will be consulted on such suggestions and must be in agreement with the jury’s changes before a proposal is officially accepted. The exhibitions are a partnership between NVCAC and the artists, with the two parties working in collaboration.
The NVCAC promotes the exhibitions through media releases, membership and interest lists. We provide professionally designed marketing materials such as a posters, invites and E-VITES. We also host an official opening reception to celebrate the exhibition. NVCAC does not provide CARFAC fees.
Proposals may be submitted at any time but held to the next jury time. The jury committee selects the exhibitions and schedules the dates. Please note that the gallery is booked to approximately 6 months in advance. Therefore artists must be available to exhibit anytime during the next 6-month period.
Please note, exhibiting artist(s) must not have exhibited the proposed artworks on the North Shore within 6 months before the date set for CityScape Community Art Space.
