LOCAL ARTIST IN RESIDENCE (LAIR) CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Call Information
The Local Artist in Residence [LAIR] program at Cineworks offers a research and production opportunity for a period of up to 4 months to a selected local artist using Cineworks Annex analogue facilities. The residency should take place between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011. LAIR is open to Vancouver-based professional artists, defined as having completed basic training in their field, being recognized as such by their peers and committed to devoting time to artistic activity, if financially feasible. Cineworks is looking for applicants that are willing to explore, experiment with and push our current analogue production framework. The thrust of this residency will be to animate Cineworks' newly acquired annex space in Vancouver's historic Ironworks building. By activating the annex as an analogue production space, the LAIR program aims to afford a cultural producer with the time, space and resources to experiment with and expand the trajectory of their own practice. If possible, some form of presentation of the work developed during the residency, either in progress or at completion, will take place.
In addition to research and production relating to their own practice, the LAIR is expected to be available to the community throughout their term, including the presentation of at least one workshop. Further, the LAIR will participate in a cinematic salon to engage in dialogue about their research and production activities. Finally, the LAIR will produce a critical text around their research activities.
