Join our Public Art staff team, and contribute to the specialized cultural development work related to the administration, coordination, promotion and implementation of public art projects. Reporting to the Manager, Visual and Community Art, and working as part of a team, this position will see you involved in all aspects of the production of public art opportunities throughout Surrey. This position involves: research and drafting project terms of reference, recruiting and contracting artists, designing and coordinating artist selection competitions, reviewing and commenting on technical drawings and technical specifications for engineering and fabrication, evaluating art project production from concept development through to ensuring fabrication and installation to meet quality expectations, budget and timelines. Tasks also include resolving the maintenance needs of the public art collection, maintaining a resources contact database, organizing educational events, facilitating community consultation meetings and working with volunteers including members of the City's Public Art Advisory Committee.


Passionate about the arts, your degree in Fine Arts, Architecture, or Planning is supplemented by 3 years of related experience. You must also demonstrate a thorough understanding of project management, artistic process and art fabrication, as well as community cultural development. Your highly developed organizational and administrative skills are supplemented by excellent communication skills tailored for writing reports and drafting marketing materials including web updates and PSAs, efficiently conducting meetings, and documenting projects. Working out of the Surrey Arts Centre in Bear Creek Park, you will be surrounded by visual and performing arts in a beautiful park setting.
