The Cinematheque, Western Canada’s largest film institute, is a not-for-profit arts organization and registered charity that has been providing high-quality film screenings, innovative film education programs, and other film-related cultural programs and services in Vancouver and B.C. since 1972.
We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated individual with strong management and financial management skills who enjoys working with others in a fast-paced, dynamic creative environment.
Reporting to the Executive + Artistic Director, the Acting Managing Director is a leader responsible for directing and supervising day-to-day administrative activity and business operations to guide the organization towards achieving its annual goals and objectives while ensuring its strategic development and growth.
GENERAL: Directs and oversees short and long term strategic plans. Provides leadership to organization personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Develops and implements operational plans, policies, and goals that further strategic objectives.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Prepares annual budget for Board approval and prudently manages organization's resources within those budget guidelines, provides financial information for grant applications, manages day-to-day accounts receivable and accounts payable, manages cash flow and projections, oversees the preparation of bi-monthly payroll and maintains legal and government reporting requirements.
FACILITY MANAGEMENT: Oversees the marketing and promotion of the facility and the operation and maintenance of the physical plant and administration offices.
HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Effectively manages the human resources of the organization and supervises full-time and part-time staff, providing leadership, guidance, and motivation; schedules and performs annual staff evaluations.
BOARD: Supports the operations and administration of the Board, organizes, attends, and records Board and committee meetings and organizes the annual Board retreat.
FUNDRAISING: Works with Board and staff to maintain the organization’s fundraising activities including special/foundation/corporate grants and proposals, individual giving, and major government grant funding applications.
• Proven understanding of and experience in bookkeeping, accounting principles and financial management systems.
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Access) and Simply Accounting.
• Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Highly organized and detail oriented.
• Experience in grant writing/reporting.
• An appreciation of, and dedication to, the arts non-profit environment.
• Three plus years in arts management including experience in financial management, facility management, fundraising, and special event planning.
• A university degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or Arts.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a ten-month maternity contract with a five-day work week and a monthly salary based on $50,000 per annum, plus a shared-cost group benefit plan. Working hours are Monday to Friday; 9am to 5pm. Occasional evening and weekend hours required.
