Organization Description:

The Manager, Theatre and Performance Services provides strong and dynamic leadership in the strategic direction, planning and operation of the venues and business unit responsible for attracting and hosting performance events at MRU. The Manager is also responsible for coordinating and delivering a variety of logistical and operational support services that meet or exceed client expectations.


Job Description:

• Provide overall strategic direction to the Theatre and Performance Services operation, and ensure that individual departmental activities are aligned with institutional and divisional priorities
• Develop annual business plans and operating budget for Theatre Services, including goals and performance metrics
• Account for financial performance
• Research and monitor external trends and identify industry "best in class" practices for Front and Back of House operations
• Ensure performance venues are well maintained
• Schedule performance venues and ensure event and performance logistics and technical requirements
• Recruit, train, mentor, guide and provide leadership, supervision and advice to Theatre and Performance Services team
• Initiate, develop, and maintain relationships with industry promoters and presenters
• Provide direct service to clients, vendors and campus support services including touring individuals and groups through site visits
• Build and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with a variety of key internal partners and service providers


• Undergraduate degree required along with of 6 - 10 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Proven business acumen in the holistic operation of theatre and performance venues
• Demonstrated experience in managing significant business process change
• Extensive technical expertise in operating performance venues
• Strategic thinker, with proven planning and organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Effective negotiating skills to represent MRU's interests in commercial transactions with internal and external suppliers, clients, professional meeting planners, etc.
• Given the nature of this position, a Criminal Records check may be required
