The University Community Children’s Choir (UCCC) is composed of over sixty children aged seven to fifteen from the vibrant community surrounding the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. The choristers’ shining faces illustrate Canada’s amazing cultural diversity; its members come from every continent of the world except Antarctica! Many of the choristers are children of international students and faculty at the University of British Columbia, and they bring the spice of diverse cultures to their music. In its first year, the Choir won first in its class at the 2008 Kiwanis Music Festival in Vancouver and was runner-up at the provincial level. As a member of the BC Choral Federation, the Choir has participated in a multi-choir performance at the prestigious Chan Centre for the Performing Arts and at a province-wide Choral Festival in Whistler. As a community ministry of University Chapel, our goal is to foster a caring community for the child participants and their parents while pursuing with dedication the choir’s musical potential.

The UCCC seeks an Administrative Assistant to help achieve efficient and organized rehearsals from an administrative perspective as well as to help coordinate volunteers for special projects.

Hours:
Tuesdays from 5:30 to 8:00pm
Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:00pm
Additional hours will be scheduled as needed for special projects throughout the year.
The choir season runs from mid-September through mid-June. The number of working weeks is approximately 35.

Responsibilities: 
  • Helping to prepare choir materials, including sorting music scores and photocopying choir notices
  • Welcoming choristers and parents each week, answering any questions they may have
  • Distribution of information and collecting the return of permission slips and tuition fees
  • Distribution and collection of music and other choir materials
  • Supervising entrance/exit of the rehearsal space
  • Tracking attendance on a weekly basis
  • Maintaining an organized choir office and storage space
  • Coordinating key parent volunteer roles for special projects such as concerts, fundraisers, and choir field-trips
Qualifications: 
  • Extremely organized and motivated to make work tasks as efficient as possible
  • Excellent skill in relating to parents and children
  • Experience in working with children
  • Having a musical background is preferable
  • Available for all rehearsals and approximately 8 weekend events per year
