THE GOH BALLET ACADEMY
The Goh Ballet Academy is one of Canada’s preeminent ballet training institutions, with an enviable international reputation for excellence. Established in 1978 by Choo Chiat Goh and Lin Yee Goh, former Principal Dancers with the National Ballet of China, the Academy is now under the direction of Chan Hon Goh, until recently Prima Ballerina of the National Ballet of Canada. The Academy incorporates the non-profit Youth Company, a select performing ensemble of young artists making the transition to careers as fully-prepared professional dancers in companies around the world. The Academy introduces new interpretations of classic full–length productions, nurtures and cultivates award–winning aspiring dancers and commissions new works by some of the world’s most renowned choreographers.
Seeking to expand its vision and build on its excellent reputation, the Academy is seeking an experienced senior manager to serve as:
ADMINISTRATOR AND DEPUTY DIRECTOR
General Accountability
The Administrator and Deputy Director is accountable to the Director of the Goh Ballet Academy. Working closely with the Director, this position is responsible for all business operations of the Academy, as well as project coordination and the performance of all Academy administrative staff. The incumbent is jointly responsible, with the Director, for the overall leadership and management of the Academy.
Specific Accountabilities
Financial
•In conjunction with the artistic and administrative staff, develops the Academy’s budgets for approval by the Director
•Prepares financial reports as required
•Ensures that accounts receivable are collected and approves expenses
Business Planning
•Co-ordinates the on-going development of annual plans for all aspects of the Academy’s operation
•Leads the long–range strategic planning of the Academy
•Ensures the smooth coordination of projects undertaken by the Academy
•Organizes, coordinates and oversees all performances and events of the Academy to ensure that all details are monitored
•Ensures that measures are in place to create, implement and maintain systems, procedures and records necessary for the efficient functioning of the Academy
•Ensures that all communications, strategies and actions support the reputation of the Academy
Communication and Relationships
•Builds and maintains positive and productive relationships
•Oversees all external and internal communications of the Academy
•Ensures effective communication among all departments of the Academy
•Develops and maintains relationships with members of the Vancouver, National and International dance communities as appropriate
Policy
•As appropriate, creates, interprets and revises policy relating to all aspects of the Academy’s operations
Human Resources
•Leads, manages and monitors the performance of all administrative staff
•Sets objectives and provides feedback to staff regularly and through annual performance reviews
•Oversees the recruitment, maintenance and support of a corps of dedicated volunteers
•Manages the relationship between the Academy and its Board of Directors
•Continually reinforces the strategies, values and operational policies of the Academy through example and communication
The successful candidate will possess the following:
-excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Windows-based applications, especially MS Outlook, Excel and Word and design applications such as InDesign
-exceptional written and verbal communication skills. (English required: Chinese an asset)
-superior interpersonal skills
-working knowledge of the principles of accounting
-strongly entrepreneurial mindset and skills

Salary Range: $60,000 and up
