Arts & Culture Workshops Manager
Job Information
The Vancouver Celebrates Diwali Festival is looking for Workshop Managers to help coordinate and facilitate the arts & culture workshops for of our 2010 Festival. This year’s Festival includes many of our favorite events including a series of mini-festival workshops taking place at community centres and neighborhood houses across the city.
We are currently seeking submissions from local Workshop Managers for placement in several events happening between November 2 – 7, 2010.
Our workshops are led by qualified instructors and facilitators and typically include any of the following South Asian cultural disciplines:
- diya painting
- mehndi / henna hand painting
- rangoli design
- bhangra dance / dhol drum teams
- bollywood dance
Specific responsibilities for the Workshop Managers will include the following:
- liaise with the Festival Coordinator
- liaise with the venue representative and/or volunteers at each workshop
- coordinate the sequence of events onsite
- coordinate and communicate with the workshop instructors / facilitators
- monitor supply of workshop materials
- purchase and transport workshop materials as needed
- assist workshop instructors / facilitators during workshops
- assist in set-up and clean-up of workshops
- public speaking may be involved
- Specific experience in and/or knowledge of the workshop disciplines is an asset, but is not mandatory.
- Many of our workshops have a high-concentration of youth participants, so experience in this area is an asset.
- Drivers license and access to a vehicle is required.
- Ability to perform some moderate lifting.
- Ability to remain focused in busy and chaotic environments.
- Must be able to work at locations across Vancouver and at diverse days/times during the Festival

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS August 1, 2010.
Workshop Managers will be paid hourly fees for workshop activities. We prefer to book Workshop Managers for as many workshops as possible. Specific rates is to be discussed.
