Job Description: 

The Vancouver Celebrates Diwali Festival is looking for Workshop Managers to help coordinate and facilitate the arts & culture workshops for of our 2010 Festival.  This year’s Festival includes many of our favorite events including a series of mini-festival workshops taking place at community centres and neighborhood houses across the city.

We are currently seeking submissions from local Workshop Managers for placement in several events happening between November 2 – 7, 2010.

 Our workshops are led by qualified instructors and facilitators and typically include any of the following South Asian cultural disciplines:

  • diya painting
  • mehndi / henna hand painting
  • rangoli design
  • bhangra dance / dhol drum teams
  • bollywood dance
Responsibilities: 

Specific responsibilities for the Workshop Managers will include the following:

  • liaise with the Festival Coordinator
  • liaise with the venue representative and/or volunteers at each workshop
  • coordinate the sequence of events onsite
  • coordinate and communicate with the workshop instructors / facilitators
  • monitor supply of workshop materials
  • purchase and transport workshop materials as needed
  • assist workshop instructors / facilitators during workshops
  • assist in set-up and clean-up of workshops
  • public speaking may be involved
Qualifications: 
  • Specific experience in and/or knowledge of the workshop disciplines is an asset, but is not mandatory. 
  • Many of our workshops have a high-concentration of youth participants, so experience in this area is an asset. 
  • Drivers license and access to a vehicle is required.
  • Ability to perform some moderate lifting.
  • Ability to remain focused in busy and chaotic environments.
  • Must be able to work at locations across Vancouver and at diverse days/times during the Festival

Placement is limited. VCD will only contact persons it is considering hiring. If necessary, a interview might be required.
Remuneration: 

Workshop Managers will be paid hourly fees for workshop activities. We prefer to book Workshop Managers for as many workshops as possible. Specific rates is to be discussed.
