MISCELLANEOUS Productions seeks an experienced theatre or dance professional for the Assistant Director / Community Developer position on our new play, Kutz & Dawgs.
Part-time – 10 - 15 hours per week
Youth Worker experience an asset. Drivers’ License and access to a vehicle an asset but not required. References will be required as will a Criminal Record Check.
MISCELLANEOUS Productions is a non-profit charitable society based in Vancouver, BC. Founded in July 2000, we are currently in our 11th year of collaborating with culturally and socially diverse youth, adults and elders, making performances, new media and music for the public.
Dubbed ‘Glee with Grit’ and 'theatre boot camp for at-risk youth,' MISCELLANEOUS Productions is the only professional community-engaged performing arts-based, youth-serving organization of its kind in Canada. Our society was created as a vehicle for diverse artistic projects, with accessibility and inclusion as central pillars of the company’s mandate. We are passionate about the exploration of interdisciplinary art and new artistic practices, and about the intersection and combination of professional performance and film, community development and education. We strive to work with artists/activists who are audacious enough to make art that has relevance to a contemporary audience that extends far beyond the elitist art world.
MISCELLANEOUS Productions provides culturally and socially diverse young community members with innovative and inspiring, professional performing arts-based opportunities to empower themselves and effect change.
(a) Assist Artistic Director Elaine Carol with directing and producing the project Kutz & Dawgs – a professional artists and community collaboration, community-engaged theatre project;
(b) Assist Artistic Director Elaine Carol at every Monday and Friday afternoon rehearsal – 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Britannia Secondary School in East Vancouver;
(c) Assist Artistic Director Elaine Carol and Production Manager Katja Schlueter on possible additional days (contingent on funding).
(d) Work on Community Development duties on Kutz & Dawgs which includes front-line work with an integrated, culturally and socially diverse group of multi-barriered and mainstream youth age 14 – 21 years old in a performing arts-based context;
(e) Manage a budget and purchase healthy snacks for the youth for each rehearsal;
(f) Collaborate with the Professional Team members on the production of Kutz & Dawgs;
(g) Some administrative duties;
(h) Attend Production Meetings with all other members of the Professional Team; and
(i) Assist in providing education to project participants about diverse art forms, arts education and training, sponsorship opportunities, popular culture, etc.
(a) Experience working with diverse youth;
(b) A commitment to social justice, equality and the integration of these values into artistic work;
(c) A commitment to working with diverse people in an anti-oppression model;
(d) Solid experience in both arts organizations and community-based organizations;
(e) Professional training and experience in theatre and/or performance art and/or dance and/or music;
(f) Ability to encourage and motivate project participants and volunteers;
(g) Strong communications skills; and
(h) Strong interpersonal skills.

Hourly wage for this contract - $12 – 15 per hour – commensurate with experience and contingent on funding. Mileage covered if the successful applicant has a car.
