THE CULTCH IS HIRING - BAR MANAGER: full-time contract position
For 37 years, the Vancouver East Cultural Centre has been one of Vancouver’s premiere presenting venues located on the East Side. The Cultch presents an innovative season of contemporary theatre, dance and music, as well as an active and exciting youth program and is home to a thriving rental clientele. The Cultch has over 250 performances a year and welcomes over 35,000 visitors. We employ warm, caring people who love to serve.
The position of Bar Manager will provide the chosen applicant with the opportunity to make a start-up enterprise financially viable. Our 20 seat café/wine bar and our lobby bar will be marketed and managed by you. You need to be passionate about people and their enjoyment of food, drink and theatre. In order to provide a premiere experience to our patrons you need to be the consummate host, with exceptional organizational skills and a flare for adventurous food and drink.
The Cultch puts the art of customer service front and centre and you will be part of dynamic team that engages people in inspirational, innovative, professional contemporary performing arts enhanced by an exception food and beverage experience. You are a people person, who knows how to get the word out about East Vancouver’s newest hotspot for fine drink and delectable nibbles. Hours of Work: This is a full-time position based on a 40 hour work week. Most work hours will take place in the late afternoon and evenings including weekends, however daytime staff meetings and admin hours are also required. Days off are flexible and based on the performance schedule. This job is a union position governed by the terms and conditions of the Front of House Collective Agreement between The Cultch and IATSE Local 118.
Reporting to Senior Management, the duties of the full-time Bar Manager include but are not limited to:
- Marketing and managing the Café Wine Bar & Lobby Bar, ensuring that these social enterprises produce a profit
- Working with the Front of House Manager and Box Office Staff to more than satisfying all customer needs by ensuring that service is consistently at a high standard and clientele receive a wonderful experience on each visit.
- Developing a food and beverage menu
- Develop and implement systems for marketing, pricing, sourcing, tracking and obtaining inventory
- Overseeing the logistics for the opening nights of Cultch presentations and special donor/subscriber events including liaising with caterers, sponsors and staff
- Preparation of post show reports in conjunction with other Cultch staff
- Overseeing, training and scheduling part-time bar staff
- Tracking and reporting on revenues and expenses and cash flow for the Café Wine Bar and Lobby Bar.
- Preparing and reviewing monthly work plans with measurable goals.
- Exceptional customer service and people skills, well organized and efficient
- Experience in food and beverage preparation and service
- Experience in budgeting cash management and inventory including the operation of cash registers and point of sale hardware.
- The ability to work calmly under pressure, handle unexpected situations and be a strong team player
- Experience in staffing, scheduling, training and supervision
- Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel
- Serving It Right, Food Service certification and Level 1 Occupational First Aid certification
