Carousel Theatre for Young People is an award-winning Theatre for Young Audiences company in Vancouver, BC.

Each season more than 40 000 young people and their families benefit from Carousel Theatre’s distinctive programming. Under the vision of Artistic Director Carole Higgins, Carousel Theatre produces a Mainstage Season of Literary Classics, a Teen Shakespeare Program, and a year-round Theatre School for Young People (ages 3 to 17 years). Carousel Theatre plays a unique role in the theatre ecology of our community, and is the only theatre company in BC that produces a fully professional season of Mainstage programming especially for young people.

Carousel Theatre welcomes applications for the position of a temporary part-time Box Office and Administrative Assistant.  Start date is anticipated to be the week of October 24, 2011. This is a flexible position that will involve evening, weekend and some weekday shifts.

Responsibilities: 
  • General administrative duties (answering telephones, fielding inquires about CT programs etc)
  • Selling subscriptions and tickets for public performances through our in-house box office & will call duties at theatre box office.
  • Assisting with the development, coordination and execution of special events, fundraisers and opening receptions
  • Assisting with the day-to-day operations of the organization.
  • Database management.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications: 
  • Prior box office experience necessary, preferably with Theatre Manager, but willing to train the right candidate.
  • Previous experience in administration, preferably in the non-profit cultural sector, is an asset.
  • Experience working with young people and a passion for theatre
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills strategies (verbal and written) and problem solving
  • Excellent organizational skills – thorough, detail-oriented, focused and works to tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency and experience in administrative procedures, practices and the use of office equipment and computers (ability to manipulate independently and learn quickly): experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat) an asset.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities, awesome self-motivation skills and can assume responsibility
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a small team, and to work independently in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.
  • Exhibits an outgoing, friendly personality with a sense of humour. Is reliable, communicates easily with a variety of personality types
  • Asset: Working knowledge of the Vancouver theatre community
