Ceramic Instructor
Job Information
The Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Arts Council is seeking an arts program instructor to teach 3-D projects in clay to pre-school and school aged children and educational ceramic programs as part of our Educational Arts Program available to teachers in the District. This is a renewable contract position including, but not restricted to, wheel throwing and hand-building within our regular programs. The position starts in September and requires a Criminal Record Check. Successful applicants will have a ceramic arts background, be able to be flexible in hours and have experience teaching programs to pre-school and school aged children. The Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Arts Council operates out of The ACT Arts Centre & Theatre and services the region providing arts programs, educational programs, live performances, exhibitions and special events. Within the visual arts programming department the Arts Council seeks to provide programming which encourages creativity, a positive experience and a relaxed atmosphere for participation.
- Plan and implement appropriate activities
- Ensure that participants have a fun and safe program experience
- Encourage the development and creativity of participants through demonstrations
- Teach a well thought-out 8 week plan, incorporating different ceramic techniques, at minimum of 1.5 hrs/wk
- Teach Educational Arts Programs in ceramics booked by teachers ( based on instructors availability)
Programs run four seasons - 8 weeks each: Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer Clay Explorations - Pre-school Tuesdays 1:00-2:00 p.m.Pottery for Kids Ages 6-13 Mondays 3:30-5:00 p.m.Fridays 3:30-5:00 p.m.Sundays 10:00-11:30 a.m.
- Extensive ceramics background and past teaching experience combined with a proven ability to inspire creativity in children
- Experience planning and implementing pre-school and school aged children’s programs
- Ability to communicate and interact positively with children
- A positive, encouraging attitude
- Highly responsible and punctual
- Thoughtful, energetic and passionate about teaching
