Job Description: 

The North Vancouver Community Arts Council is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible individual to assist the Programme Coordinator in the planning, organization and execution of several community cultural events and programmes throughout the late spring and summer.    

Work Week:  37.5 hours (flexible work schedule, must be available weekdays, weekends)

Start Date:  May 2, 2010 (16 weeks)

Throughout the late spring and summer we mount community events and arts programming.  Some of the events are partnerships with other agencies.  These events include:  May Is Art Month, which is a 19-day cultural festival at a local mall that we animate with free art activities, an art display, and music & dance demonstrations by local artists and performers;  Art in the Garden Tour where we coordinate live music and artist displays & demonstrations in private North Shore Gardens;  five craft fairs held in outdoor public gathering spaces;  children’s free art workshops held in conjunction with local community events and children’s summer arts programmes and classes.  This position involves assisting the Programme Coordinator with all aspects of these events and programmes. 

Responsibilities: 

The Community Events & Programming Assistant will:

- assist with the development of sponsors and community partners
- assist with the organizing, training and recognition of event volunteers
- arrange necessary approvals and licensing
- co-ordinate artistic support, supplies and services
- assist with documentation and event assessment
- assist with event marketing & promotion
- assist where necessary at events & programmes
 -assist with other organization events and administrative duties as required

Qualifications: 

The successful applicant will have an interest in the arts and in developing community connections through the arts, a high degree of computer literacy, ability to problem-solve, excellent oral and written communication skills, and effective organizational skills.  The position requires a self-motivated individual to take initiative, multi-task and prioritize.  Access to a vehicle is an asset.  

Please note:  this position is subject to funding under the Canada Summer Jobs programme.  To be considered for this position, students must be between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment, registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year, intend to return to school on a full-time basis next year, is a Canadian Citizen ,permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred.
