Contractor - Education Kit Development
Job Information
The Richmond Museum seeks a qualified individual to assist with the development of an interactive resource kit on the evolution of communication in Richmond and its effect on both individuals and the community. It will explore technologies used by Aboriginal people and early explorers, the significance of communications technologies in Richmond and in Canada, the effects of communications technology on lifestyles and environments, a comparison between ancient and modern communications. This kit will be geared towards intermediate grades, guided by the BC teaching curriculum and rented out by school teachers and other educators for use in their classroom.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Adhering to a set work plan and timeline as agreed upon with the Educational Programs Coordinator. The project will begin in August 2010 and be completed by October 1, 2010.
- Researching and developing the content and organisation of the kit, including developing activities, lesson plans, and worksheets that promote object-based learning and critical thinking.
- Working within a budget to source materials for kit, including objects, photographs, books, audio-visual materials, and other resources.
- Developing a Teacher’s Manual that includes clear curriculum links, instructions for using the kit effectively and efficiently, and worksheets, activities, and lesson plans adaptable for different grades.
- Compiling the final contents of the kit, including the teacher’s manual, student manuals, and primary and secondary resources.
The successful candidate should possess the following:
- A degree or extensive experience in museum interpretation, education and/or a related discipline
- Previous work or volunteer experience developing programs or resources for elementary school students, or other education program development for a museum/historic site
- Knowledge of Canadian history (Richmond’s history is an asset) and communications technology
- Demonstrated ability to plan and organise effectively with attention to deadlines
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and within a collaborative process
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent research skills
