Located in the heart of Vancouver on beautiful Granville Island, Arts Umbrella is widely regarded as an organization with a heart; where creativity is nurtured, children are valued, and staff, donors, and volunteers are intensely loyal and sincerely appreciated. Serving youth ages 2-19 for more than 30 years, Arts Umbrella strives to foster the creativity of young people by providing innovative and quality visual and performing arts programs that inspire intellect, spirit and passion. Delivering both on-site and outreach programs, Arts Umbrella touches the lives of thousands of children a year through the delivery of over 200 weekly classes. Programs range from general courses in music, theatre, dance, painting, sculpture, architecture, film, photography, media and more.
Reporting to the Dance Manager, the Coordinator, Dance helps oversee the dance department’s logistics and coordinate the Arts Umbrella Dance Company performances. The Coordinator assists the Artistic Director and Manager with planning, budget tracking, and departmental communications. S/he liaises with multiple individuals both within the organization and externally in regards to administrative tasks and projects. The Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating tours, auditions, special events and programs. S/he spearheads contracting service providers, guests and faculty, including making travel and accommodation arrangements. The Coordinator, Dance may be expected to work in both the Granville Island and Quebec and 7th Ave. locations. The work week is Saturday through Wednesday to provide support for parents and students and to assist the Artistic Director as needed.
An ideal candidate for this position would have a post secondary diploma/degree and one to three years experience in an administrative role or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Skilled in communication, both written and oral, she/he would operate well in a collaborative, dynamic work environment and have a solid computer background and knowledge. She/he would be detail-oriented and extremely organized, as well as being a self-starter, creative thinker, and confident professional. Solid understanding of the Microsoft office suite, Adobe Acrobat, Filemaker, and Raiser’s Edge would be an asset.
