Job Information
This is administrative and supervisory work in planning, coordinating and directing the development and implementation of fine arts programs carried out by Program Services at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and various recreation centres and schools within Burnaby. In addition, the work involves supervising directly and through subordinates, staff and contract instructors. This role is responsible for hiring staff and contract instructors and plans, assigns and reviews the work and program delivery. This role works with a variety of internal and external contacts and provides consultative and advisory services and prepares and implements the provisional and annual budget. This role is responsible for a year-round arts programming and evaluates the programs for effectiveness. An incumbent in this class exercises initiative and considerable independence of judgement and action within established policies and scope of the role, and will discuss with a supervisor unusual situations. In addition, the role will create a variety of reports, statistics, records and correspondence in relation to the work and performs other related work as required.
University graduation with a degree in Fine Arts, Recreation or related discipline plus sound related experience in program coordination and programming is required or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience supervising a moderate sized group of staff is essential. This role must have the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external contacts. This role must have considerable knowledge of the interests and functions of community groups and agencies as well as objectives of Fine Arts programs in the community. The incumbent must have the ability to manage and track a budget utilizing MS Office software and working knowledge of accounting procedures in relation to the budget. The ability to work with limited supervision and problem-solve accordingly is important. A valid BC Driver’s License is required.
