Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) is one of the Top 5 film festivals in North America in terms of both number of films shown and audience size and one of the largest cultural events in Canada. A fall fixture on the international film festival calendar, VIFF’s mandate is to encourage the understanding of other nations through the art of cinema, to foster the art of cinema, to facilitate the meeting in British Columbia of cinema professionals from around the world, and to stimulate the motion picture industry in British Columbia and Canada.
The Film & TV Forum, the largest event of its kind in Western Canada, takes place annually during the VIFF. Our mandate is to develop and strengthen the Canadian film and television industry and assist our filmmakers in producing quality product for domestic and international markets. Our program also provides a unique opportunity for Canadian film and TV producers to access global markets and develop and foster working relationships with the international community. The Forum’s panellists have included multiple award-winning speakers from some of the most celebrated, successful and critically acclaimed films and TV shows in the world.
VIFF is currently accepting applications from a creative, discerning individual for the exciting and challenging position of Creative Director of the Film & TV Forum. The candidate will work closely with the Forum Producer and will require an excellent knowledge and understanding of the Canadian and international film and television industries.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Develop and implement program content for the Forum plus New Filmmakers' Day
· Secure guest speakers and moderators for all programs
· Conduct media interviews and liaise with Forum Publicist
· Promote New Filmmakers’ Day at film schools and relevant institutions
· Support the Forum Producer in the cultivation and solicitation of key sponsors
· Attend board meetings and sponsorship/funding meetings where necessary
· Update Forum Producer regarding program content and solicitation of guest speakers in a timely manner and on a regular basis
· Adhere to Time Line as provided by Forum Producer
· Produce final report at end of contract
· Contribute to the overall success of The Forum with participation in activities outside the scope of this job description
Skills and abilities include:
· Excellent knowledge and understanding of the Canadian film and television landscape and the international marketplace
· Familiarity with industry trends and opportunities
· Ability to network effectively and secure a mix of prominent local and international guest speakers
· At least two years experience programming or curating film and television events or equivalent involvement within the industry
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking. Experience in moderating panels and interviewing guest speakers would be an asset
· Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team
· Ability to meet deadlines
· Commitment to excellence in the arts and a passion for film and television
· Strong computer skills should include use of databases
