Job Description: 

deer crossing the art farm is seeking a creative, reliable and energetic Events Coordinator for its 2011 summer season.

Responsibilities: 

The ideal candidate is passionate about nature and the arts – along with the transformative influence both have in our lives and communities. The Events Coordinator (EC) will assist with planning and execution of art farm special events from June 6th – August 28th 2011, including Pollinate, a ten day workshop in July for high-school age students, and the art farm’s annual August festival Synchronicity.

The EC will report to the Executive Director and work closely with members of the community as well as the art farm Community Outreach Coordinator. In keeping with the normal “build” work cycle of festivals and related events, candidates should anticipate longer work hours leading up to special events. Some evening/weekend work will be required.

This will be a full time contract position (40 hours/week) lasting for 12 weeks starting June 6th.  Pay for the position is $15/hour– and is made possible, in part, by the Federal Government’s Canada Summer Jobs program. Anyone applying must be under the age of 30 and currently enrolled in or graduating from a post-secondary institution of some kind. He/she should also be residing on the Sunshine Coast for the summer months.

This position includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:

    Coordinating communications for all the summer events, including liaising with marketing and social media experts. email newsletters, media lists, and artist pages on the dcaf website and working with the Executive Director to create press kits.
    Overseeing the dcaf hub office for events and ongoing activities, checking and returning messages on phone line and emails
    Updating current media communications including website/ facebook/ twitter accounts with text and photos
    Coordinating volunteers and collaborators for special events, including training and supervising, updating the festival media wall, responding to phone and email inquiries, preparation of info materials, liasing with other staff and contractors

Qualifications: 

    Excellent interpersonal abilities, including strong oral and written communication skills
    Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills,
    ability to meet deadlines,
    Computer skills: Microsoft Office required; database and/or website and social media knowledge an asset,
    Ability to work independently and as part of a team,
    Ability to work flexible hours and a capacity for working under pressure,
    Experience working on special events and/or working with volunteers,
    Passion for the arts and nature, and an understanding of the not-for-profit environment
