Job Description: 

The GVPTA is seeking a seasoned theatre professional or arts administrator for the position of Executive Director.  Please note that the closing date for submissions is September 26 by 12:00 p.m. due to a time constraint due to an upcoming conference and last date of employment for our current Executive Director.

The Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance, incorporated in 1983, is an association of more than 100 theatre companies and individual members who, through their collective efforts, promote live theatre and foster a thriving environment for the continued growth and development of theatre through the Greater Vancouver Regional District. 

 

Responsibilities: 
  • Grant writing, fund-raising, and project budgeting
  • Day to day office administration, correspondence, banking, and membership processing
  • Creating regular communications to members and public via email and social media
  • Programming, coordination and marketing of our annual Making a Scene conference
  • Programming, coordination and marketing World Theatre Day celebrations
  • Maintaining and marketing the Vancouver Theatre Guide listings, including advertising sales
  • Producing printed marketing materials for various events throughout the year
  • Working with the Treasurer and bookkeeper to maintain financial records
  • Reporting to the Board of Directors at regular meetings and preparing and distributing documents for board and committee meetings
  • Soliciting sponsorships and donations in kind for programs and events
  • Developing and presenting a professional development workshop series, including launch of a new Unified Auditions program in the spring of 2012
  • Representing the Vancouver Theatre community at a variety of events and functions

 

Qualifications: 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have

  • Experience in administration and management of a not-for-profit organization (preferably in the performing arts)
  • Proven leadership skills, demonstrated experience in community engagement
  • Self starter with lots of initiative
  • Ability to foster/maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders such as Board members, GVPTA members, arts organizations, donors, and others
  • Good communication, social media and computer skills
  • Experience with project management, marketing and budgeting
  • Experience managing volunteers and contract workers
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping (esp Simply Accounting) an asset
  • Graphic design skills an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of the GVPTA & the issues of local theatre companies an asset

Remuneration: 

Remuneration: Commensurate with experience. Benefits include complimentary theatre tickets as available and some flexibility in scheduling.
