Job Description: 

Reporting to the Artistic Director, the Children’s Festival Organizer works to develop and deliver the Surrey Children’s Festival as a professional arts event. Working with a community based Festival committee and a broad range of City staff, the Festival Organizer is responsible for developing and implementing action plans, logistics and programming to deliver the annual event. The Festival Organizer will work with various agencies and community groups such as; School District 36, Surrey RCMP, Fire Dept., as well as with production crew and performers to ensure the Festival meets it mandate, which is The Surrey Children’s Festival is a safe and colourful place which inspires young hearts and minds to greater possibilities and celebrates our rich and diverse cultural heritage through performing and visual art experiences.

Responsibilities: 

The incumbent will research, plan, program and schedule various events and activities and will prepare contracts as required. The Festival Organizer will also schedule and attend meetings, develop and implement marketing, communications and outreach plans for the Festival, and maintain the website. Working with the Artistic Director and the Manager of Community Development Services, the Organizer will support the recruitment of festival sponsors and other job related duties as required.

Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will have completed post secondary education with course work in arts administration or a related field and possess experience in arts programming, events coordination and marketing. Essential skills include strong attention to detail, the ability multitask and to work effectively with community members, build relationships with existing community groups, support new and existing groups in evolving, and apply creativity in serving the needs and interests of the Festival and community. Effective and tactful communication skills are a must for this position as well as demonstrated initiative, a positive attitude, and strong public relations.

Remuneration: 

This is a City of Surrey Regular Part-time position.  

This position requires the applicant to accommodate the flexible needs of the Festival. At times the Organizer will work three days a week and at times 5 days a week. This is based on the needs of the project thorough the year.
