Firehall Arts Centre Training Program
Job Information
The Firehall Arts Centre team is looking for 4 individuals to join us for a four month internship learning the ins-and-outs of working in a theatre.
It takes more than the performers on stage to get a show up and running. These behind-the-scenes people are the ones that make sure the performances are a success. They’re the lighting designers, stage managers, technicians, publicists, marketers, administrators, customer service staff and so many more…and we want you to join us
Learn the skills to work as:
- Front of House
- Box Office
- Bartender
- Production Assistant
The internship will run over a period of approximately 16 weeks and provide training and pay for four (4) participants to obtain and increase their employment skills for entry-level positions in the arts. The training program will focus on key areas within the front-line customer service positions, administration and the production of a thriving theatre organization. Participants will be selected to train in the following departments: Box Office/database management, Customer Service Management including Front of House and Bar, Technical Production, and Marketing/Outreach.
During the internship, you will be able to gain new employability skills and certificates, including:
- Occupational Health & Safety First Aid Level One
- Serving It Right certification
- FoodSafe
- Introductions to production, theatre administration, customer services, publicity and marketing and day-to-day arts management
- Life skills workshops
- Customer Service Skills
- Experience handling cash and working with cash registers
- Experience working in a professional environment
- Plus, job experience working with artists, technicians, administrators, and the community
Requirements:
- Between 19 – 30 years of age
- Currently unemployed, underemployed, or receiving benefits
- Not attending post secondary school and do not have a degree from a post secondary school
- Canadian Citizen or permanent resident/landed immigrant
- A desire to increase your employment skills and gain great experience
- Willing to explore your potential and learn new things

Training Program participants are provided with a minimum wage ($8/hr) training subsidy throughout the training program.
