The Vancouver Fringe Festival, produced by the First Vancouver Theatrespace Society, is BC’s largest theatre festival. Pursuing the vision of "Theatre for Everyone,” the Fringe features unjuried, uncensored theatre of all kinds and for all audiences. With over 700 performances by more than 100 artists, the Fringe runs September 6-16, 2012 at Mainstage Venues on and around Granville Island and at Bring Your Own Venues across the city. The most popular shows are held over for the Pick of the Fringe September 19-23.

Job Description: 

Reporting to the Communications Director, the Junior Designer and Communications Assistant is responsible for the design and production of marketing collateral as assigned (including print ads, banners and special event programs), coordinating volunteer photographers, editing photos, video, and podcasts, and assisting with other marketing initiatives including but not limited to writing newsletter content, social media, and program guide distribution.

The position is an unpaid internship commencing on June 11, 2012 part-time turning into full-time on August 20, and ending on September 28, 2012.


• Design and coordination of Festival marketing materials including posters, print and web advertisements, special event programs, etc in coordination with the Lead Designer
• Recruiting and coordinating volunteer photographers (and videographers) to photograph the Fringe
• Photographing Fringe events
• Editing and organizing photo and video footage of the Festival and posting suitable content online
• Basic podcast creation and editing
• Writing newsletter content while adhering to Fringe style guide
• Posting content on Fringe website using HTML in a WordPress format
• Working with Communications Coordination with maintaining social media presence of the Festival
• Assisting with the implementation of the Fringe Festival iPhone App and the coordination of the Fringe Festival program guide distribution
• Other duties as required
• Preparing and delivering a final report


• Proficiency in graphic design programs, particularly Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Flash), and Microsoft Office Suite on a PC platform
• Experience in graphic design of communications or marketing materials
• Proficiency in iMovie and GarageBand on a Mac platform or comparable programs
• Strong writing skills
• Excellent organizational skills and/or project management experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite on a PC platform
• Working knowledge of HTML in a WordPress platform
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines and work flexible hours
• Interest and experience in working in the arts sector is highly valued
• Awareness of the not-for-profit environment an asset
