Term 2 Winter (10 weeks): Tuesday, January 3, 2012 – Friday, March 9, 2012
Term 3 Spring (10 weeks): Monday, March 26, 2012 – Friday, June 8, 2012

Junior Music Fundamentals Instructor – Percussion
Outreach: Florence Nightingale School
Thursday, ages 7 – 9 3:00 – 5:15 PM
Candidates will have an extensive music background and past teaching experience combined with a proven ability to creatively engage children and youth in learning music. Candidates have an understanding of the Sarah McLachlan School of Music vision and mission, and demonstrate the Standards for Instruction in their current practice. A post-secondary degree (or equivalent) in music or related discipline and experience with educational curriculum is preferred.
This class will be for students in grades 2 and 3 who wish to learn the fundamentals of music with an emphasis on the basics of percussion. This class must be designed to inspire children to explore their musical curiosity, using a variety of hand drums to pursue creative expression. The class should emphasize exposure to fun musical experiences, and introduce the students to basic drumming beats and rhythms. The idea of the class is to excite, inspire, and most importantly have fun with the sounds of drums and other percussion instruments.
Successful candidates will be contracted to work for the Sarah McLachlan School of Music at 200 – 138 East 7th Avenue but will teach at Florence Nightingale Elementary School at 2740 Guelph Street during the 2011/2012 programming year, beginning September 19, 2011 until June 8, 2012.
