Job Information
Arts umbrella’s internationally recognized Dance program emphasizes technique, strength, intellectual and artistic expression, while focusing on the physical health and emotional wellness of the individual. Under the guidance of the highest quality instruction students are given the opportunity to explore dance as artists, athletes, performers, audience members, and future professionals.
The Program has a strong foundation in classical ballet, jazz and contemporary dance forms. Classes range from early-learning to recreational to professional level training. The successful candidate for this position will be adept at balancing the challenges that arise in a program that is committed to the values of both inclusion and professionalism.
The Manager, Dance has a dual reporting relationship to the Director, Programming and to the Artistic Director of Dance and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Dance program which provides leadership and support to the Coordinator, Assistant, and instructional staff.
The ideal applicant for this role is a self-starter who brings an impressive history including the ability to make sound decisions; a person who is extremely adaptable and flexible while, at the same time, being highly detailed-oriented.
The successful candidate is required to demonstrate:
- a working knowledge of dance education
- solid communication skills and the ability to relate and engage with multiple stakeholders including parents
- strong project management skills where budget and deadlines are strictly adhered to
- experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures around child safety, transportation, and classroom requirements
- successful hiring, training, recruitment, and orientation, of instructional staff
- previous experience in supervising, managing and evaluating a diverse team
- a solid ability to multi-task and prioritize
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- solid computer skills
In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a record of excellence in the following areas:
- an advanced ability to work with kids
- customer service
- planning
- problem solving and trouble-shooting
- supervision, coaching, and mentoring
Qualifications
The competencies for this position would typically be acquired through a university degree and three to five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
