Manager, Program Operations

Serving youth ages 2-19 for more than 30 years, Arts Umbrella strives to foster the creativity of young people by providing innovative and quality visual and performing arts programs that inspire intellect, spirit and passion. Delivering both on-site and outreach programs, Arts Umbrella touches the lives of thousands of children a year through the delivery over 200 weekly classes. Programs range from general courses in music, theatre, dance, painting, sculpture, architecture, film, photography, media and more.
Reporting to the Director, Programming, the Manager, Program Operations is responsible for the management and development of the Early Learning, Media Arts, Theatre and Visual Arts, and programming portfolio and scheduling/registration for all Arts Umbrella programs. This role provides day to day supervision and leadership to five administrative positions in programming and registration and to instructional staff. The successful candidate for this position must be able to demonstrate experience and expertise in the following areas:
- Development and management of Early Learning, Media Arts, Theatre and Visual Arts
- Hiring and orienting instructional staff
- Program scheduling
- Program development, implementation and review of course curriculum, lesson plans
- Maintenance and communication of policies and procedures
- Daily logistical management of programs and people
- Budget preparation for arts programming
- Payroll review
- Coaching and supervision of administrative and instructional staff
- Preparation of monthly written reports to Director of Programming, including registration statistics with any applicable recommendations
- Establishing and maintaining long-lasting relationships with external partners
- Understanding of best practices around teaching pedagogy, arts education, community programming for children and registration
An ideal candidate for this position would have a college or university degree and five years of experience working in an institutional or educational setting. Experience supervising staff, understanding of Human Resource management, familiarity with best practices in teaching pedagogy and registration, and a passion for and ability to work with children and youth. Skilled in interacting with diverse groups of people and operate well in a collaborative work environment. Solid computer background and knowledge, detail oriented and extremely organized, and ability to influence various stakeholder groups and achieve project timelines. Knowledge of the ActiveNet registration system would be an asset.
