This is a temporary full-time, one year leave replacement position commencing February 6, 2012.

Under the direction of the Marketing Manager assists, initiates and coordinates marketing campaigns for general promotion of the Chan Centre.  With supervision from the Co-Managing Director - Programming & Administration initiates and coordinates market analyses and general research to aid in the selection of artistic programming for the annual Chan Centre season.

Responsibilities: 

Unless otherwise noted, under the direction of the Marketing Manager :

Coordinates and implements marketing and communications materials (including but not limited to ads, posters, fliers, email PDFs and programs) for campaigns by researching associated costs, booking ad placement, creating and following timelines, writing copy and compiling photos, coordinating the design and printing of materials and delivering on budget and on deadline.

Proofs/edits all materials by deadlines.  Coordinates distribution of Chan Centre marketing materials including delivery of posters, brochures, fliers as well as direct mail of materials.

Under the direction of the Co-Managing Director - Programming & Administration assists with artistic administration of Chan presentations including: executing market research to aid in the selection of programming content and determining pricing tactics for Chan Centre presentations; assisting with the systems for tracking and filing information; assisting with artists' show requirements during event weeks as needed.

Ensures accurate recognition of the Chan Centre and UBC in all client-marketing materials (including acknowledgement of Chan Centre sponsorships and endowment fund contributions).

Generates content schedules for e-newsletter communications and weekly listings ad campaign. Writes e-newsletter and listings ad copy and coordinates any promotions.

Designs weekly listings ads and UBC LED screen slides and other materials as needed using Adobe Creative Suites.

Coordinates and integrates all social media campaigns. Tracks social media statistics and prepares reports for Marketing Manager.

Adds all new events to the Chan Centre web calendar and coordinates with the ticket office and Programming staff in order to ensure that all information for events is accurate and posted in a timely manner. Proofs Chan Centre website on a regular basis to ensure accuracy of event information.

Coordinates opportunities to communicate up-coming events and Chan Centre news with patrons, including contra ad exchanges with other arts organizations whenever possible.

Promotes the Chan Centre mailing and e-mailing lists, finding ways to strategically encourage patrons to sign up while adhering to privacy regulations. 

Assists Marketing Manager with larger-scale projects for marketing department by conducting market surveys and writing promotional/marketing materials to aid in the development of new initiatives such as student peer-to-peer marketing projects.

Oversees and maintains an archival system for articles/ads/marketing materials and other projects as required.

Books and guides public tours of the Chan Centre facilities for the public and trains new work study students on giving tours.

Oversees the coordination of work study students in the booking and guiding of tours of the Chan Centre for the general public; on-campus distribution of marketing materials and archiving of Chan Centre related articles, ads and listings.

Assists in supervising position and reviewing work study students' outreach lists for targeted marketing and communications campaigns. Researches outreach opportunities as needed.

Coordinates Chan Centre booths at activities on campus such as UBC Alumni weekend, UBC Staff Welcome Back BBQ, Imagine Day and any others that may come up throughout the year.

Sets up and runs the marketing table at all Chan Centre presents and connects events.

Runs the Chan Centre membership program in coordination with UBC Annual Giving staff and Marketing Manager.

Works with the Programming Coordinator and Marketing Manager to research and promote the Chan Centre Connects events.

Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications: 

Diploma in Marketing.  University degree or diploma in Arts Administration with courses in marketing preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Minimum of one year experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Minimum one year professional experience in the performing arts.

Working knowledge of contemporary marketing strategies and practices especially online and social media marketing as well as basic graphic design ability.  An understanding of the marketing mix components required for promoting shows.

Demonstrated experience working in a professional capacity in an arts organization and/or with performing artists, performing arts managers, producers and promoters. Working knowledge of the performing arts including performing artists, repertoire, artists' needs and presenters' requirements.  A knowledge and interest in music considered an asset.

Familiarity with a university environment. Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.  This refers to terms and conditions of employment that the employee must be willing to agree to as part of the job.(e.g., willing/able to work weekends or shifts)(e.g., willing/able to take action to keep skills and knowledge current) (e.g., willing/able to work outdoors in all types of weather).

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively resolve client complaints in a calm, non-confrontational manner, and by exercising sound judgment. Ability to analyze and interpret data, determine implications, and provide recommendations.

Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to work in a complex and demanding environment with a high level of attention to detail. Ability to exercise tact and discretion. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Creativity and demonstrated ability to function effectively within the performing arts environment.

Ability to effectively use MS Office at an intermediate level. (e.g., Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel) and Adobe Creative Suites an asset. Demonstrated experience with website content management systems, email marketing programs, and social media platforms strongly recommended.
