Job Information
Gallery Gachet is seeking a motivated, creative and organized individual who will work collaboratively with the Collective/staff team to develop, support and implement the delivery of cultural services, operations related to Gallery Gachet’s mandate and oversee the financial health of the gallery.
Gallery Gachet is a dynamic collectively-run art gallery located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES). Gallery Gachet provides artists who speak to mental health, trauma, or abuse experience with opportunities to exhibit, curate and teach. Through artistic means we aim to demystify and challenge issues related to mental health and social marginalization in order to educate the public and promote social and economic justice.

Management:
- Responsible for managing gallery bookkeeping, including overall Gallery budget management, cash flow monitoring, payment of artists, coordinating with Bookkeeper to integrate reports and process daily, monthly and annual reports; Provide clear and accurate reports to the collective as needed
- Promote a professional and clean environment in the gallery, including oversight of maintenance issues
- Take the lead to identify opportunities for both private and public funding sources for the organization, including existing federal, provincial and municipal grant programs, corporate sponsorships and/or partnerships, and foundations
- Write grants and create business proposals for other funding sources
- Prepare funder reports, statistical documentation, and monitor outcomes of Gallery programming
- With the Collective and other staff play an active role in strategic planning for the Gallery
- With the Collective and other staff, based on the mentorship model, coordinate and support initiatives that advance Collective, volunteer and community members professional arts practices and development
- Represent The Gallery at various meetings or events on and off site
Record Keeping
- Manage various contracts/documentation – insurance, society filing, business license, security system
Human Resources
- Maintain Human Resource files
- Manage employee benefit program
- Hire, train, and oversee volunteer coordinator, bookkeeper and interns
- Develop volunteer and staff incentive programs
- Update and manage staff job descriptions and contracts
Fundraising/Audience Development:
- Personally provide and maintain exceptional customer service within The Gallery
- Plan sales-related events and special gallery features including but not limited to fundraising events and donor relations
Authority:
- Reports to the Human Resources Committee.
- Reports activities to the Collective on a monthly basis
Due to the nature of work this list is not exhaustive.
- Knowledge and/or experience in the operations of artist-run centers, as well as knowledge of issues related to mental health.
- Interest and experience in working in a collaborative manner with staff team and Collective members.
- May have experience working in non-profit or grassroots community organizations, and may have knowledge of collective, empowerment, and capacity-building models.
- Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and action in performing all aspects of the work.
- Ability to perform duties with little or no direction, be a self-starter and self-motivated.
- Ability to multi-task, function effectively and within deadlines.
- Knowledge of budgetary practices and maintenance; knowledge of relevant accounting/bookkeeping procedures.
- Experience with fundraising and grant-writing for not-for-profit organizations.
- Effective communicator, and may have conflict resolution experience.
- Sound knowledge of office procedures and record management; ability to prepare and maintain reports and correspondence related to the work.
- Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.
- Must be able to operate all office equipment and a variety of PC or Mac software programs.
- Must have strong computer skills with a variety of software (Word, Acrobat, and/or other relevant graphic programs) and knowledge of online social media tools like facebook, twitter, blogging, etc.
- Mentorship, curatorial and graphic design skills using Adobe CS an asset.
- Must be able to work focused and independently in a sometimes-hectic environment, as well as working collaboratively with member artists and staff, and partnering organizations.

The Operations Director will be paid $23.56/hr, with a work week of 28 hours. One year contract (renewable), with 3 month probationary period.
