Applications are invited for a Program Assistant, Marketing + Communications, to provide marketing, communications and program development support to Continuing Studies. In addition the role also provides administrative support to the various projects and programs offered through Continuing Studies’ mandate including certificate and diploma programs, general non-credit course offerings, contract training and special programs.

Responsibilities: 

Some Typical Duties:

  1. Under the general direction of the Dean, and working closely with the University Communications department, prepares and implements a full marketing strategy in support of all Continuing Studies programs, including promotional material for broadcast, online and print media.
  2. Under the general direction of the Dean develops promotional materials, including print and online advertising, brochures, marketing copy and web copy.
  3. Develops key contact information databases for e-marketing, grassroots and community outreach marketing. Oversees updating and maintenance of mailing lists.
  4. Writes, edits and proofreads CS calendar and other departmental materials, including brochures and student handbooks, for accuracy of information and consistency with overall marketing and communications plan.
  5. Coordinates the printing of calendar with printing company including arranging timelines for delivery of copy, blue lines/digital output and final calendar. In consultation with the Dean and Senior Administrator, liaises with designer (in-house or contract) on design decisions. Arranges distribution of calendar with mailing company, delivery company, and student monitor, as well as for internal distribution.
  6. In consultation with the Dean coordinates CS exhibits and special functions including liaising with internal Emily Carr departments such as Student Services, Charles H. Scott Gallery, VP Academic Office, Associate Deans Office, Facilities, and Library. Liaises with exhibitors, curators, catering companies, and technicians, as well as scheduling the receipt and installation of work; initiates action as appropriate regarding events, scheduling changes, space, and other related issues.
Qualifications: 

Applicants will have:

 

  • University degree in a related field and courses in marketing, media management, social media, communications or event marketing.
  • Three to five years’ related marketing/communications experience in the cultural/academic sector or not-for-profit environment with a proven ability to work to deadlines to meet institutional objectives or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in strategic and business planning.
  • Experience in developing and implementing integrated marketing/communications campaigns with proven results.
  • Some knowledge of art education and the BC system of advanced education, public training institutions and continuing or adult education is preferred.
  • Experience with grassroots marketing, community outreach, and special events.
  • Demonstrated ability in creating, sourcing and maintaining relationships with media suppliers, including online, print media, direct mail, radio and television.
  • Demonstrated outstanding communications skills including public speaking, proposal writing and formal presentations.
  • Excellent administrative, leadership and budgeting skills, and advanced computer skills, including good working knowledge of Word, Windows, Excel, student records database systems (preferably Colleague/Datatel), including proven skills in creating complex spreadsheets.
  • Aptitude and understanding of digital marketing, Google analytics, SEM and social media tools.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, work effectively under pressure, handle continuous workflow with minimum supervision, and demonstrate initiative.
  • Ability to direct work of others.
  • Proven written and oral English language skills. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, administrative staff and public is essential.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends from time to time as required.
