Program Coordinator, Dance and Drama

Full time, Contract (1-year maternity leave)

Place des Arts seeks a resourceful, self-directed, energetic person to oversee and coordinate dance and drama programming. This is a full time, 1-year contract position.

Place des Arts is a non-profit society that has been operating a teaching arts centre since 1972. We believe art can and should be experienced, expressed and appreciated by all. In fact, it is our mission to inspire the artist in everyone. Place des Arts provides a multitude of opportunities for people to express themselves artistically. Through music, visual arts, dance, drama, and the literary arts, we champion every age and ability. We are a teaching arts centre that also hosts a dynamic schedule of exhibitions, concerts, and special events with galleries and a gift shop that showcase a changing display of original works by local artists and artisans.

JOB SUMMARY

The program coordinator is a self-motivated person who, in consultation with the teaching faculty and staff, is required to plan, develop, implement, monitor, administer, and evaluate arts programming in dance and drama for all ages and skill levels. The program coordinator performs other related administrative ad hoc duties while serving as a liaison between staff, faculty, and program participants.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the program coordinator possesses excellent people skills and a genuine desire to provide quality customer service in a non-profit environment. This is a full-time, 37.5 hour per week position with a flexible work schedule. Must be available for occasional evening and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities: 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1.      Recruit and liaise with faculty regarding program development and delivery, course descriptions, class scheduling, supplies and room set-ups. Specific areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to,

a.        ongoing and sessional courses;

b.       workshops;

c.        master classes;

d.       dance festivals and performances;

e.       dramatic arts performances;

f.         multi-disciplinary art camps (spring break and summer camps)

2.      Prepare and monitor program budgets;

3.      Evaluate and prepare reports for each area of program responsibility;

4.      Evaluate program status prior to the start of programs, liaise with teachers, students and other staff to inform of changes;

5.      Identify volunteer opportunities with the Volunteer and Resource Development Coordinator;

6.      Support Communications Coordinator with program promotion and website maintenance

Qualifications: 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-secondary education in an arts-related field or equivalent training and experience;
  • Experience in programming for arts or recreation organization;
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office

REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills;
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines;

ASSETS

  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications;
  • Knowledge of Adobe Design Software;
  • Knowledge of CLASS recreation software;
  • Experience and/or training in the not-for-profit sector;
  • Training experience or familiarity with dance and/or drama
