Job Description: 

The program coordinator is a self-motivated person who, in consultation with the teaching faculty and staff, is required to plan, develop, implement, monitor, administer and evaluate arts programming in visual arts for all ages and skill levels. The program coordinator performs other related administrative ad hoc duties while serving as a liaison between staff, faculty and program participants.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the program coordinator is responsible for the planning and implementation of the arts centre’s exhibition spaces and visual arts programming in consultation with the artists and teaching faculty and artisans. You possess excellent people skills and a genuine desire to provide quality customer service in a non-profit environment. This is a part-time, 22.5 hour per week position with a flexible work schedule. Must be available for occasional evening and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinate annual call for artists, adjudication process and gallery scheduling;
  • Hang exhibitions and attend opening receptions;
  • Support the exhibition program through installation, promotion and exhibition-related workshops; and
  • Recruit and liaise with teachers regarding program development and delivery, course descriptions, class scheduling, supplies and room set-ups. Specific areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ceramic and fibre arts classes and visual arts workshops and master classes.
  • Evaluate and prepare exhibition and program reports;
  • Prepare and monitor budgets;
  • Assist communications coordinator and programming staff with promotion and targeted marketing;
  • Support events coordinator in the programming and production of the annual Family Day series; and
  • Provide support and assistance to programming and administrative staff.
Qualifications: 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-secondary education in an arts-related field or equivalent training and experience;
  • Familiarity with handling artwork and hanging exhibitions;
  • Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines;
  • Solid organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience in programming for arts or recreation organization; and
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills;
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships; and
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Assets

  • Knowledge of Class recreation software;
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator;
  • Experience and/or training in the not-for-profit sector.
