PROGRAM DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION: MADE IN BC – DANCE ON TOUR SOCIETY
The Made in BC – Dance on Tour Program Director is responsible for the execution of the society’s programming. The Program Director works with the Board, Made in BC staff, and a broad community of stakeholders locally, regionally, and nationally.
Reports to: Board of Directors
Responsible for:
1. Stakeholder Relations
i) Liaise and maintain communication with stakeholders (presenter network, artists and companies, art service organizations, funders, staff, and board)
ii) Coordinate and attend meetings (board, dance community)
2. Fund Development
i) Grant writing and stewardship; operational and project grants at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels
ii) Foundations and corporate sponsorship
3. Administration/Coordination
i) Office Management
ii) Website and database maintenance
4. People Management
i) Oversee the work of anywhere from one to three part time employees
5. Marketing and Communications
i) Attend meetings, conferences, and showcases representing the society
ii) Develop written communications (informational and promotional)
6. Facilitation and Planning of Events
i) Breaking New Ground, Pitch Session
ii) Various meetings and workshops with stakeholders throughout the year
7. Financial Management
i) All financial recordings and processing and processing of monies received and spent
ii) Cash flow projections
iii) Regular financial statement preparation for various stakeholders
iv) Annual budget preparation and evaluation
The successful candidate is an independent self-starter who can take responsibility for the continued development of this exciting organization. The candidate will have:
- A minimum of five years experience in a management position in a non-profit performing arts organization
- Experience in fund development
- Experience in people management
- Knowledge of standard accounting procedures and practices (Simply Accounting)
- A working knowledge of dance touring both locally and nationally
- A working knowledge of audience development best practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to improving the position of contemporary dance in the province
- Experience in leading stakeholders in achieving organizational mission and vision
- A passion for contemporary dance
Academic/Educational Requirements
Preference will be given to candidates holding arts administration degrees or who have successfully completed courses in business practices in the arts including fundraising, marketing, people management and financial management; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
