Summer Intern Position – Program Intern 16 weeks: May 10th, 2010 – August 27th, 2010 The Place: Gateway Theatre is a medium sized professional theatre company located in Richmond, British Columbia. In its 27th year of operation, Gateway Theatre produces 4 main stage, 2 new play productions, and a Canadian play development program. Gateway also has Academy classes all year long for youth 8-18, a, rentals, volunteer and outreach programs for the community. Hours of work: The office day is 9am – 5pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch break. Total hours/wk = 35
Duties of the internship: The internship will focus on season preparations for the professional productions: Main Stage and Studio productions. Gateway Main Stage and Studio programs preparation Organizing and facilitating auditions Communication with all artists for the 2010-2011 season Facilitating translation materials Archival of part year production materials Cataloging of production information and photos Data Entry and record keeping Assistance with general administration in the office The student will be supervised by the Artistic Associate who will provide training and daily supervision for the student. The program intern will learn how to speak to artists, what is required for contracting and how to assemble a cast/season of professional artists.
Interest in and understanding of Theatre production necessary Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills Computer skills in Microsoft Office suite Superior interpersonal and communication skills Detail oriented Business/Administration training an asset Interest in arts education for youth an asset Asian language skills an asset Team player but able to work in independent environment This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The successful applicant must: be legally entitled to work in Canada; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada; be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment; be a full time student with the intention of returning to full time studies in the fall be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment for a period of 16 weeks; not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week); and not attending full-time classes while carrying out this job
