ArtStarts in Schools is a growing, dynamic, not-for-profit organization that promotes art and creativity among British Columbia's young people. Since 1996, ArtStarts has supported and promoted professional artists in urban, rural and remote regions of the province.

ArtStarts envisions a society where the arts are regarded as an essential part of educating young people and a catalyst for creating innovative, engaged and contributing members of society. ArtStarts has a leadership role in transforming the way children and youth are engaged, in and through the arts, and in promoting the value of the arts in young lives. 

In 2006 ArtStarts opened the first public gallery in Canada to showcase young people’s art. The gallery, which is also the administrative office, is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver at 808 Richards Street. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinate tours and book up to 2,000 performances each year in urban, rural and remote communities across British Columbia
  • Negotiate fees and block booking discounts between artists and presenters
  • Sustain and continuously refresh the Artists Directory (which includes over 100 artists) while ensuring diversity across disciplines and a high level of artistic quality
  • Work with emerging artists interested in reaching young audiences
  • Maintain relationships with schools, districts and community arts organizations to ensure optimum utilization of ArtStarts’ services
  • Support the Production Manager to deliver the annual ArtStarts Showcase conference
  • Program ArtStarts on Saturdays and other public events in the ArtStarts Gallery 
  • Database maintenance using Microsoft Access
  • Collaborate with the team to advance ArtStarts’ organizational mission to provide innovative arts programs for young people, practical resources for teachers and artists, and leadership in advocacy for arts in education
Qualifications: 
  • Post secondary education in a relevant field
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in the arts sector in Canada
  • Superb communication skills and ability to build positive working relationships
  • Geographic understanding of British Columbia particularly the rural and remote areas
  • Experience coordinating and marketing special events and conferences
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Access database software

Remuneration: 

This is a permanent full-time position (35 hrs/week) with a salary $42,000 – $45,000 (based on experience) plus three weeks of vacation, extended health benefits, underground parking and an open and creative work atmosphere.

The Program Manager enlivens the education of an estimated 500,000 young people in approximately 1,600 BC schools each year. Now that's rewarding work!
