Publicity/Advertising Manager
Job Information
This position is responsible for the promotion of the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society’s annual Roots and Blues Festival as well as outreach events and other Folk Society activities. Other responsibilities include the coordination of the production of the annual festival program book and brochure, web content, advertising sales, and general office duties.
- Manage the annual promotions budget
- Purchase print, web and broadcast advertising
- Social networking – Facebook, Myspace, Youtube and various web portals
- Statistical analysis and correlations of promotions to ticket sales and web traffic
- Electronic newsletters
- Coordinate poster, brochure and program creation and printing
- Coordinate distribution of posters, brochures and other promotional materials
- Write performer biographies, and content for various media outlets
- Assist Sponsorship Manager in promotion of sponsor related events
- Determine shot lists for festival photographer with input from Sponsorship Manager
- Create MC notes for all stages with input from Sponsorship Manager
- Sell advertising for various festival publications and forums
- Assist in organizing hospitality needs for volunteers and performers
- Coordinate media accreditation submissions and approvals
- Liaise with Media Committee for Festival needs including assembly of media information packages
- Coordinate media interview requests for Media Crew
- Coordinate backstage Media Appreciation event for execution on Saturday of Festival
- Gather and archive media coverage, both pre and post Festival
Completion of a university degree in a related discipline, plus extensive experience in arts publicity/promotion; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, plus a minimum of two years experience in publicity/promotion.
- Strong computer skills (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Ability to prepare creative and original written content
- Experience in the preparation and coordination of promotional material for cultural programs and events
- Strong budgetary and fiscal management qualities
- Ability to cold call and manage advertising sales
- Strong sense of design
- Monitor and evaluate all aspects of the position and adjust accordingly to trends and initiatives
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage numerous projects under deadline
- Ability to manage staff and to nurture professional relationships
- Sound knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques
- Excellent verbal and written communication skill
- Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with a broad range of staff and create a sense of team
- Ability to successfully pass a Criminal Record Check
