Roundhouse Communications Coordinator

The Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre is one of Vancouver’s most dynamic gathering places. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for providing excellent customer service and leadership to the Roundhouse through a wide range of promotional and publicity activities. As a vital part of our team, the Communications Coordinator prepares and/or oversees the materials that represent the public face of the Roundhouse. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and a strong appreciation for the Roundhouse mission and mandate.
The Coordinator assists and counsels the Roundhouse staff and Society Board regarding a variety of communications functions including:
- Publicity and promotion of Roundhouse programs, events, partnerships, residencies and other services
- Support to and liaison with Roundhouse stakeholders including partners, media representatives, community groups and others regarding promotion of events and services
- Development and implementation of a publicity plan to increase the visibility of the Roundhouse
- Management of the Roundhouse website and social media strategies
Events, Programs and Services Promotion:
- Design and/or oversee the development and production of all promotional materials. Materials include the seasonal brochures, special event materials, recreation and arts program promotions, arts flyers, postcards, posters and other materials as requested
- Develop a structure and priority for working with social media
- Coordinate with staff an overall approach and timeline for the development and production of promotional materials
- Develop and maintain computerized databases to track mailing/distribution lists for media, arts groups, agencies, Roundhouse members and other communities of interest
- Produce and distribute electronic newsletter
- Liaise with Roundhouse stakeholders, including partners, media representatives, community groups, as requested
- Develop processes for evaluating the effectiveness of promotional efforts, in collaboration with the staff and the Communications Committee
- Assist with the re-development and updating of the Roundhouse website and other social media
- Recommend and assist with developing additional promotional materials as requested (e.g. TV, print, radio ads and online advertising)
- Assist with preparation of Roundhouse rental promotional materials, as requested
Administration:
- Work with staff to establish a yearly budget for promotional efforts
- Monitor expenditures and revenues to ensure that Roundhouse communications are operated in the most cost-effective way possible
- Attend meetings with staff and the Communications Committee to provide advice, recommendations, and updates on the Roundhouse’s communications activities
Education
- degree or diploma in Communications/Media/Design Arts or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Knowledge
- Familiarity with arts and community organizations in Vancouver
- Familiarity with various media channels (broadcast, print and online)
- Understanding of, and appreciation for a community development-based approach to delivery of services
- Understanding of the Roundhouse’s goals and objectives
- Understanding of Social Media
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to represent the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre positively with customers, suppliers, various media and arts organizations
- Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of, and experience with Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and HTML
- Graphic design experience an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to organize, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills in building positive relationships with people at all levels of the Roundhouse organization, both internally and externally
- Familiarity with budget processes
- Sense of humour
Experience
- Demonstrated working experience with all facets of the graphic design process, including publishing and distribution
- Experience working across cultures and ages, and with diverse socio-economic groups
- Experience providing support to groups regarding development of ideas and programs
- Experience working in the public sector or with an organization that delivers direct community services an asset
- Experience with Social Media Channels and content providers

- Pay Scale: $24 per hour depending on experience. Benefits package after 3 months.
