Summer Student Positions
Job Information
Carousel Theatre is looking for dynamic team players to work with us to produce our annual Teen Shakespeare Program, outdoors at Performance Works. This year, we are staging The Taming of the Shrew. This is a Canada Summer Jobs initiative; Applicants must be full-time high school, university or college students who will be returning to full-time studies in the fall. The following positions are available, contingent upon funding:
Production Stage Manager
Dates of Employment: June 28 - August 20, 2010 (8 weeks)
35 hours per week Pay: $11 per hour
The Stage Manager will organize and coordinate rehearsals and performances of The Taming of the Shrew, liaising with the director, production manager, and other production personnel while acting as a supervisor to a group of teen actors for the duration of the program. Specific duties will include: setting up and running rehearsal schedules, arranging costume fittings, distributing information to other departments, compiling and creating a prompt book, filing daily show reports, ensuring safety, and overseeing and running backstage and onstage areas during performances. This position is suitable for a post-secondary student who has experience in theatre.
Audience Services and Marketing Coordinator
Dates of Employment: June 28 - August 20, 2010 (8 weeks)
35 hours per week
Pay: $10 per hour
The Marketing Coordinator will develop and execute a marketing plan for The Taming of the Shrew. This will include development and distribution of promotional materials, creation and distribution of press releases and media kits, and liaising with local media. The marketing coordinator will act as the on-site audience services coordinator during performances and will recruit volunteer ushers and oversee all audience service aspects for the event. Qualifications include: excellent people and phone skills, excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Word and Excel, the ability to work well independently and in a team environment. This position is suitable for a post-secondary student.
Design Coordinator
Dates of Employment: June 21 - August 20, 2010 (9 weeks)
35 hours per week
Pay: $10 per hour
The Design Coordinator will work directly with teen actors in the program to design and create costumes, props, set decoration, and the on-site village for this outdoor event. Specific duties will include: serving as team leader for props making workshops (this will include crafts, painting, etc) and costume-making workshops (this will include pattern cutting, machine and hand sewing). Applicant should have theatre design experience and be enrolled in a university or college theatre design/production program. This position is suitable for a post-secondary student.
Assistant Stage Manager
Dates of Employment: June 28 - August 20, 2010 (8 weeks)
35 hours per week
Pay: $10 per hour
The Assistant Stage Manger will participate behind-the-scenes during rehearsals and performances, liaise with the director, Production Stage Manager, and other Carousel staff, while acting as peer support to the group of teen actors for the duration of the program. Specific duties and responsibilities include: creating and distributing schedules, liaising between the program departments, including set, costumes, sound, lighting, stage management and program instructors, distributing information to other theatre departments, ensuring the company's welfare and maintaining a good working knowledge of all relevant health and safety legislation and good working practice, organizing, maintaining, and running the backstage and onstage areas during performances. This position is suitable for a high school student (Grade 11+) who has interest/experience in theatre.
