THEATRE TERRIFIC'S BELIEVES IN THE MOSAIC OF CANADIAN CULTURE: We create theatre where artists of all abilities are seen, heard, challenged and respected. Theatre Terrific supports emerging and working artists with developmental, physical, mental health issues, immigrant and language challenges, gender issues and those with no labeled challenges. We bring together artists who would normally never have the opportunity to work together. Our classes and productions pursue excellence and high standards in the craft of theatre ensemble creation. Theatre Terrific is developing a core group of drama instructors for year round contract work in various classes and workshops. Potential teachers may attend a group class at the Vancouver Japanese United Church (Victoria & 23rd) on Jan. Sat. 30th 1:00-4:00pm for a "Teachers Workshop" led by Artistic Director Susanna Uchatius. This class will serve as a training workshop and interview process.
Summary of a typical Theatre Terrific Class includes the following. Teachers are responsible for creating curriculum which supports student development in the following ways: - developing a safe supportive environment wherein creative experiment, risk and adaptive opportunity is encouraged. This is done with a wide variety of theatre exercises. -Innovative methods exploring the mind and body connection that greatly enhances physical and vocal authenticity in the actor. - We will examine one short piece of classical text and deconstruct it physically and literally developing a modernized portrayal of the work. - At the end of the last class there will be a public presentation of the work explored by the class. - All of the above involves listening, voice and movement exercises which are adaptive to all types of challenges.
Teaching experience preferred. Working with people with disabilities and asset.
