The Port Moody Arts Centre Society operates a non-profit, full-service arts centre in the heart of Port Moody.  As an active leader in the arts, we inspire creativity by offering over 300 arts programs, hosting an incredible variety of exhibitions in our art galleries, serving as the box office for the Inlet Theatre, facilitating an artist’s co-op gift shop, and sponsoring a variety of special events.

We are seeking a dynamic and well-organized summer student for our Tourism Officer position. This position is for 32 hours/week for 11weeks, with an anticipated start date of June 20, 2011 (dependent upon funding).

Responsibilities: 
  • Provide information and assistance to clients regarding the Port Moody and Tri Cities area. 
  • Keep statistics and submit timely reports to Tourism BC
  • Order tourism materials as needed
  • Work in the Blackberry Gallery Gift Shop, including learning about the local artists and the range of artistic process represented by the work available for sale
  • Provide support to the front desk staff at the Port Moody Arts Centre, including processing gallery and ticket sales and program registrations
  • Daily office management including telephone communications, mailing list database maintenance, file management, and other tasks as required
  • General administrative work (answering phones, sending faxes, updating online listings, helping with mail outs, database maintenance, etc.)
Qualifications: 
  • Previous sales experience with a willingness to learn new skills; interest in and appreciation of art and artistic processes an asset
  • Great communication skills and a high level of commitment to customer service
  • Computer fluency in word processing, spreadsheets, database management, Quickbooks, and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends
  • Experience in cash handling and bookkeeping
  • Knowledge of and an interest in the Port Moody/Tri Cities Area an asset
  • Must have been registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year who intends to return to school on a full-time basis in the fall; between 15-30 years of age
