Vancouver National Youth Arts Week Coordinator
Job Information
In preparation for National Youth Arts Week (NYAW) taking place May 1-7, 2011, The Vancouver Youth Arts Coordinator will be responsible for rallying and engaging youth in artistic and creative projects and initiatives. The Youth Arts Coordinator will work within their community to support local organizations and youth to help plan cooperative art celebrations throughout NYAW 2012.
Details:
- Youth from across Vancouver are encouraged to apply.
- The Vancouver Youth Arts Coordinator is a part-time position representing 1 to 2 days of work a week for a period of six months.
- Schedule is highly variable and flexible and will include evenings and weekends.
- The Coordinator must be able to work from home
- Start date is November 26th. The position expires on May 25th.
- The Coordinator will receive an honorarium of $1000/month.
Work tasks and responsibilities:
- Mobilizing youth to come together and take an active role in planning local activities during National Youth Arts Week 2012
- Meet with arts and cultural organizations in communities to survey and gather information and establish relationships
- Aid in establishing collaborative committees of youth and youth arts organizations to begin planning of arts projects
- Provide mentorship to youth leaders in the logistics of planning community youth arts projects including budgeting, supplies, communications, etc
- Compile contact information for local youth involved in National Youth Arts Week activities and build into a database
- Create a synchronized calendar of events and projects taking place with different groups throughout the community to keep each other informed of what is happening
- Assist in developing and distributing materials for the NYAW 2012
- Investigate alternate funding sources to support NYAW activities and initiatives in their local communities
- Network with Regional Youth Arts Coordinators across the country
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience or education in Event Planning, Community Development or Communication
- Artistic background in one or more mediums; past involvement in larger arts initiatives
- Proven ability to mobilize and engage youth in collaborative community projects
- Organizational experience in administrative and/or communication
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Knowledge of the local community and youth arts sector
