Historical Performance Ensemble (GVHPS of BC)

reconstruction of “Entrée de deux Bacchantes", France 1713

Our goal is to illuminate and enable a direct, engaging experience of 15th to 20th century life in Canada and Europe by offering historically informed dance, music, theatre and wardrobe.

We share these arts and their contemporary context through public performances, professional and community workshops, lecture demonstrations in schools and seniors’ centres as well as artistic consultation for film, tv, theatre and opera.

The six women who comprise Historical Performance Ensemble are passionate about the research, reconstruction, practice and dissemination of Renaissance and Baroque dance and music.  Each member contributes their specialization to create the whole.  All elements of music, costume, choreography, interpretation, masks & dramatics are carefully considered.

Our audiences have found our choices aesthetically pleasing, intellectually stimulating and kinesthetically dynamic.
